National Weather Service Issues Winter Storm Watch

Posted on January 4, 2019

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch from 5 am Saturday to noon on Sunday. Snow is expected at elevations above 3,500 feet, including the north eastern section of Butte County.

People traveling in mountain areas may experience significant reductions in visibility and are advised to carry chains and expect travel delays.

Motorists should be prepared for winter driving conditions if they must travel during these conditions. Motorists should carry food, water, a shovel, waterproof jackets and gloves, boots, and make sure their vehicle is in good condition with proper tires, tire cables or chains, fresh windshield wipers and a full tank of fuel.

Community members should be aware that the following roads are closed for the winter season:

  • Humboldt Road from Green Gate to the Plumas County Line
  • Humbug Summit Road from Skyway to the Plumas County Line
  • Powellton Road from Doe Mill Road to Upper Skyway
  • Skyway from Inskip to Butte Meadows

The Butte County Department of Public Works will monitor roads and respond to plow and de-ice roads as needed. For current County road conditions visit Buttecounty.net/roadconditions.
